Is there a cure for tinnitus, YES, tinnitus  is not a disease, but a symptom resulting from a range of underlying causes that can include: ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, nose allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain and cause wax build-up. tinnitus can also be caused by natural hearing impairment (as in aging), as a side effect of some medications, and as a side effect of genetic (congenital) hearing loss. However, the most common cause for cure is noise induced hearing loss,

THE world`s first effective treatment for tinnitus – has been developed by a Perth scientist.

The treatment, which involves “retraining” the brain’s auditory pathways, is based on more than a decade of research by Dr Davis of Curtin University.

Tinnitus, from which Dr Davis also suffered, causes a persistent ringing, buzzing, roaring or whistling in the ears and can affect sufferers’ sleep patterns, work and social life.

“The problem is very severe for about 2 per cent of the population but it affects the quality of life for up to 5 per cent,”

What causes tinnitus?
Among the more common causes of tinnitus are:

  • Exposure to loud sounds
  • Extreme stress or trauma
  • Degeneration (‘wear and tear’) of the small bones in the middle ear
  • Ear problems, such as otosclerosis (fixation of the tiny stirrup bone in middle ear)
  • Meniere’s disease (swelling of a duct in the ear)
  • Some prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Avoid stress
There is strong anecdotal evidence that stress exacerbates tinnitus. Although stress is part of everyday life, you can take steps to reduce.

Surgery

Surgery for tinnitus is never justified. It often exacerbates the condition. If you are in doubt, obtain a second or even a third opinion.

Hearing Aids

One of the first things to consider is whether to fit a hearing aid or aids, or improve or extend an existing fitting. Rather smaller than usual degrees of hearing loss can usefully be aided and thereby help the tinnitus also, especially if explained to the patient that it is a treatment for the tinnitus as well.

To this end, the patient’s acoustic environment should also be enriched, particularly at the quietest times, by addition of background noise at a level that becomes clearly audible when amplified by the hearing aid. Where possible and appropriate, fittings should be non-occluding and binaural. Poor hearing-aid fittings can lead to frustration, loudness discomfort and anxiety, and thus are liable to make tinnitus worse.

What Will Worsen the Ringing Ears

Watch carefully about what you eat. If your meal consists of excessive salt, then you will worsen the ringing ears in no time.

Do you know that cigarette will also worsen the condition? Cigarette contains a substance called Benzenes, and benzenes is really active in making your suffering days last. Be sure to consider stopping your smoking habitual, if not, try to reduce it.

Coffee drinker should also do the same. Tinnitus and it worsen effects will triggered by small amount of caffeine consumption.

Have you notice that there are lots of great things that you should avoid in order to make you stay away from tinnitus? That is far from good, you need to take action in order to cure your tinnitus. There is proven methods for a tinnitus cure.

See your doctor if you think you have tinnitus
If you think you have symptoms of tinnitus, it is important to consult your doctor, an audiologist (hearing scientist) or an ear, nose and throat specialist. They will be able to establish whether there is any underlying treatable cause of tinnitus

Most people with tinnitus have hearing loss,in that they are often unable to properly hear external  sounds which occur within the same range of frequencies as their “phantom sounds.” This has led to the suggestion that one cause of tinnitus might be a homeostatic response of central dorsal cochlear nucleus auditory neurons that makes them hyperactive in compensation to auditory input loss.

There are many treatments for tinnitus that have been claimed, with varying degrees of statistical reliability:

Tinnitus is common
Approximately 17 to 20 per cent of Australians suffer from some degree of Tinnitus, varying from mild to severe. The percentage of people who are severely affected is small. It is common for tinnitus to fluctuate with stress or tiredness, but this has no harmful significance.

Types of sounds experienced with tinnitus
There are many different sounds associated with tinnitus; some of the most common are:
  • Ringing
  • Buzzing
  • Whistling
  • Roaring
